Overview
  • Location: Newport
  • Client: Newport City Council
  • Destination: Newport Transporter Bridge
  • Role: Business Planning

Detailed business planning for a new visitor centre on-site, as part of Newport City Council’s Stage 2 National Lottery Heritage Fund grant application.

At full operation the transporter bridge can cater for up to six light vehicles and 120 pedestrians. It is the largest of the world's seven operational transporter bridges.

Newport Transporter Bridge is one of only seven working (and eight existing) historic transporter bridges worldwide. It is Grade I listed and has become a much-loved icon for the city.

Fourth Street produced a business plan to support the development of a new visitor centre at the bridge. The Centre will provide new interpretation of the bridge’s history and its important connections to the River Usk, the city of Newport and its people. It will also improve the visitor’s experience by providing a new cafe, meeting and education spaces, and improved access to the unique high level viewing experience at the top of the bridge.
