Sheffield Central Library
Sheffield’s Central Library and Graves Art Gallery are housed in a grand but challenging 1930s building in the city centre. We reviewed and recommended development options for both the building and its tenant library and gallery services. Informed by a thorough review of recent projects across the country, our analysis considered capital funding prospects and long term financial sustainability, as well as the latest thinking on the contribution that galleries and libraries can make to city centres, placemaking and the urban economy. The recommended option is now being considered in greater detail.
